In baseball, in the American League, the Yankees beat Cleveland 5-3, the White Sox blanked Boston 4-0 causing the Red Sox to fall into last place in the AL East having lost six of their last seven games and 12 of 17. Elsewhere the Angels topped Toronto 5-2, Kansas City shut out Tampa Bay 6-0, Houston bested Texas 12-7, and it was Seattle over Minnesota 2-0.

In the National League,  the Mets beat Atlanta 4-3 in 11, Cincinnati tripled up the Cubs 9-3, Philadelphia edged Milwaukee 3-2, St. Louis shut out Pittsburgh 2-0, San Diego won against Colorado 6-1, and Arizona blew out Miami 9-1.

In interleague play, Baltimore bested Washington 8-2 in 11, and Oakland blanked San Francisco 5-0.

A Yankees fan has filed a $10 million lawsuit against two ESPN announcers claiming they mocked him when he was caught on national television sleeping in his seat during a game at Yankee Stadium. In court documents, Andrew Robert Rector admitted to napping during a game against the Boston Red Sox on April 13th, but says commentators Dan Shulman and John Kruk unleashed an "avalanche of disparaging words" against him.

NBA:

A neurologist has testified that Donald Sterling has Alzheimer's disease, as a trial over the Los Angeles Clippers sale finally gets underway. Dr. Meril Suer Platzer testified Monday that she was hired by Sterling's wife, Shelly, to evaluate him. The NBA has moved to oust Donald Sterling as team owner because of racist remarks he made.

The New York Knicks have hired Kurt Rambis as associate head coach, reuniting him with former Laker and head coach Derek Fisher. Knicks president Phil Jackson made the announcement yesterday. Fisher played 10 seasons for the Lakers while Rambis was a coach in Los Angeles.

Lionel Hollins has been introduced as the new coach of the Brooklyn Nets. After leading Memphis to the NBA Western Conference finals in 2012-13 he was dismissed by the club and failed to land another job.

World Cup:

The World Cup semifinals start today with host Brazil facing off against Germany. The other semifinal will be Wednesday with Argentina playing Netherlands.

NFL:

A federal judge in Philadelphia has granted preliminary approval to a deal that would compensate former NFL players for concussion-related claims. The NFL last month agreed to remove a $675 million cap on damages after the judge questioned whether there would be enough money to pay all claims. The settlement is designed to last at least 65 years and cover retirees who develop Lou Gehrig's disease and other neurological problems.
