Sports Report: U.S. Falls To Belgium In World Cup Knockout Match

World Cup:

Goalie Tim Howard made 16 saves, but the United States is done at following a 2-1 loss to Belgium. It was a scoreless game until Belgium scored in the 93rd minute and made it 2-0 just 12 minutes later. Julian Green got the Americans within a goal in the 107th minute, but they couldn't put away several quality chances. Elsewhere Argentina slid past Switzerland in extra time 1-0. Belgium and Argentina will face each other in the quarterfinals.

Wimbledon:

Rafael Nadal has been ousted in the fourth round at Wimbledon, falling to 144th-ranked Nick Kyrgios 7-6, 5-7, 7-6, 6-3. Kyrgios is a wild card entrant who had dropped seven of his 10 ATP matches before winning his first four at Wimbledon. Roger Federer, Stan Wawrinka and Milos Raonic join Kyrgios in the quarterfinals.

Angelique Kerber knocked out Maria Sharapova 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 to advance to the Wimbledon quarterfinals. Simona Halep and Sabine Lisicki also won their fourth-round matches, while Lucie Safarova and Petra Kvitova moved into the semifinals with straight-sets victories. And the Williams sisters had to withdraw after three games in their second-round doubles match due to what was called a viral illness that affected Serena's coordination.

MLB:

In baseball, in interleague play, the Cubs edged Boston 2-1, Toronto bested Milwaukee 4-1, and Cleveland blew out the Dodgers 10-3.

In the American League, Tampa Bay topped the Yankees 2-1, Baltimore beat Texas 8-3, Detroit blanked Oakland 3-0, Minnesota bested Kansas City 10-2, Seattle blew out Houston 13-2, and the Angels defeated the White Sox in a double header, 8-4 in the first game, 7-6 in the second.

In the National League, Atlanta topped the Mets 5-4, Pittsburgh trumped Arizona 3-2, Washington beat Colorado 7-1, Miami defeated Philadelphia 5-4 in 11, San Diego bested Cincinnati 8-2, and it was San Francisco over St. Louis 5-0.

NBA:

The Milwaukee Bucks have hired Jason Kidd as coach after completing a deal with the Brooklyn Nets for his rights. The Bucks sent the Nets two second-round picks for Kidd, who went 44-38 in his only season as Brooklyn coach.

WNBA:

New York topped Tulsa 90-74, San Antonio squeaked by Connecticut 74-71, Indiana beat Atlanta 77-70, and Chicago bested Los Angeles 90-83.
