In World Cup action, Bosnia-Herzegovina beat Iran 3-1, Argentina edged Nigeria 3-2, France tied Ecuador at 0, and Switzerland bested Honduras 3-0.
The United States has their final first round game against Germany today at noon on ESPN. Meanwhile at the same time Portugal will play Ghana. The outcome of both games will determine who will advance in Group G.
NCAA:
Vanderbilt has won its first national championship in baseball.
John Norwood belted a tiebreaking, solo homer in the eighth inning to lift the Commodores past Virginia 3-2 in the third and deciding game of the College World Series. It was Norwood's first homer since April 19, and Vanderbilt's first since May 16.
MLB:
In baseball, in interleague play, Oakland bested the Mets 8-5, Tampa Bay topped Pittsburgh 5-1, Atlanta blanked Houston 4-0, the Dodgers edged Kansas City 5-4, and it was Cleveland over Arizona 6-1.
In the American League, The Yankees slid past Toronto 5-3, Boston beat Seattle 5-4, Baltimore defeated the White Sox 5-4 in 12, Detroit trumped Texas 8-6, and it was the Angels over Minnesota 6-2.
In the National League, Cincinnati bested the Cubs 4-1, Milwaukee blew out Washington 9-2, St. Louis beat Colorado 9-6, San Francisco shut out San Diego 4-0, and it was Miami over Philadelphia 3-2.
Tennis:
Top seed Novak Djokovic has advanced to the third round at Wimbledon with a 6-4, 6-3, 6-7, 7-6 win over Radek Stepanek. The match ended on a successful challenge by Djokovic in the tiebreaker. His forehand cross-court passing shot was ruled out, but the video replay showed it hit the line.
Defending champion and Andy Murray has won his second match, beating Blaz Rola of Slovenia 6-1, 6-1, 6-love.
Seventh seed David Ferrer has been ousted in a second round match. The loss is his first in the second round at a major since the 2010 Australian Open.
Five-time champion Venus Williams overcame a slow start to win her match and advance to the third round of a major for only the second time in her last 10 Grand Slam tournaments. The 30th-seeded American won six straight points in the tiebreaker and ran off six straight games in the second set to beat Japan's Kurumi Nara 7-6, 6-1.
Australian Open champion Li Na also advanced to the third round with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Yvonne Meusburger of Austria. Fourth-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska won her second-round match as well, while No. 8 Victoria Azarenka lost hers.
WNBA:
In the WNBA, Connecticut beat Chicago 79-69, and Tulsa squeaked by Indiana 107-102 in overtime.
Gaming:
Robert Morris University in Chicago will be the first college to offer athletic scholarships to students for gaming. The college is offering the incentive to bring competitive gamers to the school for specifically the free-to-play MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena), League of Legends.
