World Cup:

In World Cup Action, Spain beat Australia 3-0, the Netherlands bested Chile 2-0, Brazil trumped Cameroon 4-1 securing its spot in the knockout stage, and it was Mexico over Croatia 3-1 to secure its spot in the knockout stage. The U.S. has a game Thursday against Germany.

Horse Racing:

Saratoga Race Course has raised prices for the first time since 2005. General admission for the 2014 meet will rise from $3 to$5 and clubhouse admission will rise from $5 to $8.

NBA:

The agent for Carmelo Anthony says his client "loves being a Knick" but that the former Syracuse star is headed for free agency because he wants to explore his options. The All-Star forward had a Monday deadline to terminate the final year of his contract and had informed the team he would do so.

Tim Duncan apparently isn't ready to retire. A person with knowledge of the decision tells media outlets that the Spurs forward is exercising the option on his contract and will continue to play for San Antonio next season. The 38-year old won his fifth championship with the Spurs earlier this month, leading to some speculation that he could retire after 17 seasons in the league. Duncan will make $10.3 million next season as part of a contract designed to allow the Spurs to surround him with top-flight talent.

MLB:

In baseball, in interleague play, Pittsburgh bested Tampa Bay 8-1, and Kansas City defeated the Dodgers 5-3.

In the American League, Toronto topped the Yankees 8-3, Seattle blew out Boston 12-3, and Baltimore trumped the White Sox 6-4.

In the National League, Miami blanked Philadelphia 4-0, Cincinnati bested the Cubs 6-1, Washington slid past Milwaukee 3-0, St. Louis shut out Colorado 8-0, and San Diego defeated San Francisco 6-0.
