UAlbany men’s lacrosse beat out Loyola in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Saturday 13-6, the biggest win in program history for the Great Danes. The team will head to Long Island to face off against Notre Dame next Saturday at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
NFL:
The NFL has its first openly gay player. Defensive end, Michael Sam who came out as gay earlier this year was drafted late Saturday by the St. Louis Rams. Miami Dolphin’s defensive back, Don Jones, was fined an undisclosed amount for statements made on Twitter about Sam soon after the player’s draft in the seventh round. He later issued a statement apologizing for the comments.
Horse Racing:
Kentucky Derby winner California Chrome will head to Baltimore to try and take the Preakness in the second leg of the Triple Crown on Saturday.
NBA:
In the NBA playoffs, the Clippers squeaked by Oklahoma City 101-99, tying the series at 2, and Indiana topped Washington 95-92, giving the Pacers a 3-1 series lead.
NHL:
In the NHL playoffs, the Rangers skated past Pittsburgh 3-1, tying the series at 3, and Chicago beat Minnesota 2-1, giving the Blackhawks a 3-2 series lead.
MLB:
In baseball, in interleague play, Milwaukee edged the Yankees 6-5, Arizona beat the White Sox 5-1, and Oakland blew out Washington 9-1.
In the American League, Boston topped Texas 5-2, the Angels bested Toronto 9-3, Minnesota defeated Detroit 4-3, Houston trumped Baltimore 5-2, Cleveland slid past Tampa Bay 6-5, and it was Kansas City over Seattle 9-7.
In the National League, the Mets beat Philadelphia 5-4 in 11, Cincinnati won against Colorado 4-1, Atlanta defeated the Cubs 5-2, San Diego bested Miami 5-4, San Francisco topped the Dodgers 7-4 in 11, and St. Louis edged Pittsburgh 6-5.
Premier League Soccer:
Manchester City has won the Premier League championship for the second time in three years, finishing two points ahead of Liverpool.
