In college basketball, it was another close one for the Orange. Syracuse lost its No. 1 ranking in the latest Associated Press men's basketball poll following back-to-back losses to Boston College and Duke last week. The Orange barely ended that skid by earning an ACC road win on Monday.
Fourth-ranked Syracuse blew most of a 12-point lead in the last eight minutes and used one final defensive stop to squeeze past Maryland 57-55.
Elsewhere, it was No. 5 Kansas over Oklahoma 83-75.
In women’s hoops, No. 6 Baylor beat Oklahoma 96-89.
No. 16 Nebraska won against eighth-ranked Penn St. 94-74 and No. 21 Michigan St. had a 75-61 win over Minnesota.
Checking news in the NBA, New York Knicks point guard Raymond Felton was arrested early this morning on weapons charges.
Felton was charged with second- and third-degree criminal possession of a firearm, which are felonies, and fourth-degree possession of a firearm, which is a misdemeanor.
The New York Knicks bought out Metta World Peace and Beno Udrih.
By getting waived both veterans will be able to sign with another team and be eligible for the playoffs.
On the scoreboard, the Knicks fell to the Mavericks 110-108. Milwaukee trumped Philadelphia 130-110. Golden State defeated Detroit 104-96. It was the Clippers over New Orleans 123-110 and Utah defeated Boston 110-98.
There is a new rule in baseball limiting home plate collisions this season.
The one-year experiment allows collisions if the catcher has the ball and is blocking the runner's direct path to home plate, and if the catcher goes into the base path to field a throw to the plate.
The rule bans players from deviating from a direct path to the plate in order to initiate contact with the catcher or other player covering home plate. A runner violating the rule will be out, even if the fielder drops the ball.
Finally in boxing, Floyd Mayweather announced on Twitter that he’ll fight fellow welterweight titleholder Marcos Maidana on May 3.
