Knicks Embarass Nets 113-83, Sports World Reacts To Nelson Mandela's Death

In the NBA, the Knicks ended a nine-game losing streak and improved to 4-13 defeating the Nets 113-83 in Brooklyn. Carmelo Anthony had 19 points and 10 rebounds. The Knicks made a season-high 16 3-pointers in 27 attempts led by as many as 34 in winning their first meeting of the season against their city rivals.

Elsewhere, the Clippers had a 101-81 victory over Memphis and Miami fell to Chicago 107-87. Chicago's win came hours after Bulls guard Derrick Rose said he's not ruling out a playoff return if his surgically-repaired knee is fully healed by then.

In college basketball, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference is this weekend and Siena is set to face Niagara tonight at 7 p.m.

In a tribute boxing great Muhammad Ali said “he was a man whose heart, soul and spirit could not be contained or restrained by racial and economic injustices, metal bars or the burden of hate and revenge."

Finally in baseball, free-agent second baseman Robinson Cano traveled to Seattle on Thursday night and met with the Mariners. The Yankees believe the Mariners are about to offer Cano a nine-year, $225 million contract.
