Dufner Wins First Major Title

In golf news, Jason Dufner won his first major title with a two-stroke victory over Jim Furyk at the PGA Championship. Dufner bogeyed the final two holes Sunday for a 2-under 68 that was good enough to hold off the 2003 U.S. Open champion. The winning score was 10-under 270.

In baseball, Mariano Rivera blew a 4-2 lead before Brett Gardner homered with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Yankees over Detroit 5-4. Alex Rodriguez also turned boos into cheers after hitting his first homer of the season in the second inning.

Elsewhere in the American League, Kansas City beat Boston 4-3. The Royals improved to 18-5 since the All-Star break, winning seven consecutive series. Cleveland passed the Angels 6-5. Oakland bested Toronto 6-4. Minnesota topped the White Sox 5-2 and it was Texas over Houston 6-1.

In the National League, Andrew Brown's three-run pinch-hit home run broke open a close game and the Mets downed Arizona 9-5. Cincinnati beat San Diego 3-2 in 13 innings. Atlanta beat Miami 9-4. St. Louis doubled up the Cubs 8-4. Colorado defeated Pittsburgh 3-2 and Washington blanked Philadelphia 6-0.

In interleague play, Baltimore cruised ahead of San Francisco 10-2. Seattle shut out Milwaukee 2-0 and it was the Dodgers over Tampa Bay 8-2.

Checking NFL preseason action, it was Buffalo over Indianapolis 44-20.

In NASCAR, Kyle Busch won the Sprint Cup race at Watkins Glen.

Finally at Saratoga Race Course, Designer Legs won the Grade 2 Adirondack Stakes, paying $35 to win.

Corfu won the Grade 2 Saratoga Special Stakes for trainer Todd Pletcher, paying $15 to win.
