In the major leagues, CC Sabathia tossed a seven-hitter and struck out nine as the Yankees beat Cleveland 6-4 for a three-game sweep. Travis Hafner belted a two-run homer and Brett Gardner added a three-run shot to help the Yankees build a 6-0 lead by the end of the second inning.
In the Boston game, Elvis Andrus hit a tiebreaking, two-run double in the seventh inning as Texas downed the Red Sox 3-2.
For three weeks, players accompanied by their lawyers have been summoned to interviews as part of baseball's latest investigation into performance-enhancing drugs. There are 20 or so players who may be disciplined for their links to the now-closed Miami anti-aging clinic, Biogenesis of America.
The players' union says it has been assured no decisions regarding discipline will be made until the interviews are completed.
A person familiar with the case told The Associated Press that Biogenesis founder Anthony Bosch has agreed to talk to MLB.
Elsewhere in the American League, Tampa Bay shut out Detroit 3-0. It was Houston over Baltimore 11-7 and Kansas City defeated Minnesota 4-1.
In the National League, Marlon Byrd homered twice and David Wright added a two-run blast as the Mets crushed Washington 10-1 to end a four-game losing streak. Atlanta blanked Pittsburgh 5-0. Miami fell to Philadelphia 6-1. Colorado cruised ahead of Cincinnati 12-4. Arizona beat St. Louis 10-3 and San Diego outscored the Dodgers 6-2.
Checking interleague play, it was Oakland over Milwaukee 6-1.Toronto shut out San Francisco 4-0 and the Angels fell to the Cubs 8-6 in 10 innings.
Finally, the Bruins had to work overtime - double overtime in fact - to take a three-games-to-none lead in the NHL's Eastern Conference finals. Boston beat Pittsburgh 2-1.
