In the NBA, veteran center Jason Collins has become the first male professional athlete in the major four American sports leagues to come out as gay. Collins wrote a first-person account posted on Sports Illustrated's website.
In other NBA news, Brook Lopez and Deron Williams each had double-doubles as the Nets downed the Chicago Bulls 110-91. Lopez finished with 28 points and 10 rebounds, while Williams delivered 23 points and 10 assists to help the Nets win for the first time since the series opener.
Elsewhere, it was Houston over Oklahoma City 105-103. Kevin Durant scored 38 points. Lastly, Atlanta beat Indiana 102-91.
It also appears the Sacramento Kings are staying put after the NBA's relocation committee voted to recommend that owners reject the application for the team to relocate to Seattle.
Checking baseball news, in the American League, Houston crushed the Yankees 9-1. Detroit topped Minnesota 4-3. Cleveland shut out Kansas City 9-0. Seattle beat Baltimore 6-2 and Oakland beat the Angels 10-8.
In the National League, Miami bested the Mets 4-3. John Buck socked a two-run homer for the Mets, who blew a 2-1 lead in the ninth en route to their fifth straight loss. Washington fell to Atlanta 3-2. The Cubs beat San Diego 5-3. Milwaukee cruised ahead of Pittsburgh 10-4. Cincinnati slid past St. Louis 2-1. San Francisco defeated Arizona 6-4 and Colorado crushed the Dodgers 12-2.
In other baseball news, the White Sox have acquired Schenectady native Casper Wells from Oakland in exchange for cash.
Finally in the NFL, the New York Jets released Tim Tebow, a year after acquiring him in a trade with Denver.
