WAMC Morning Edition Sports Update

It was opening weekend in the NBA playoffs and on Saturday the Knicks beat Boston 85-78 at Madison Square Garden. Carmelo Anthony scored 36 points. Game two is Tuesday night.

On Sunday, Miami opened their NBA playoff schedule with a 110-87 rout of Milwaukee. Lebron James scored 27 points on 9-of-11 shooting while contributing 10 rebounds and eight assists.

Oklahoma City clobbered Houston 120-91. Kevin Durant scored 24 points and Russell Westbrook fell two rebounds shy of a triple-double.

Elsewhere, San Antonio outscored the Lakers 91-79 and Indiana cruised past Atlanta 107-90.

Checking baseball news, in the American League, the Blue Jays rallied for an 8-4 victory over the Yankees. After an emotional week, Boston won Saturday but lost in a double header to Kansas City Sunday. Kansas City won 4-2 the first game and defeated the Red Sox again 5-4 the second game.

Minnesota beat the White Sox 5-3. Cleveland bested Houston 5-4. Tampa Bay crushed Oakland 8-1. Texas defeated Seattle 11-3 and the Angels slid past Detroit 4-3.

Checking interleague play, the Dodgers beat Baltimore 7-4.

In the National League, the Mets shut out Washington 2-0. Cincinnati beat Miami 10-6. Pittsburgh doubled up Atlanta 4-2. San Francisco shut out San Diego 5-0. Arizona edged ahead of Colorado 5-4 and Philadelphia topped St. Louis 7-3.

In the NHL, the NY Rangers beat New Jersey 4-1 and Boston shut out Florida 3-0. Colorado beat St. Louis 5-3. Calgary whipped Minnesota 4-1. Tampa Bay fell to Carolina 3-2 and Columbus beat San Jose 4-3.

In other sports news, the Buccaneers have acquired Darrelle Revis from the New York Jets for the 13th overall pick in Thursday's NFL draft.

Finally, the British are relieved the London Marathon, which was run under tight security Sunday, came off without a hitch. Tsegaye Kebede won the men's race in 2 hours, 6 minutes and 4 seconds. He also won in 2010.
