WAMC's Daily Sports Wrap

Well the Spurs are in the NBA record books and halfway toward another appearance in the NBA Finals…

TNT had the coverage of Game 2 last night in San Antonio, where Tony Parker poured in 34 points, in guiding the Spurs to a 120-111 dismantling of the Thunder.  The Spurs set an NBA record with their 20th consecutive win bridging the regular season and the playoffs.  The Thunder, who trails in the series two-games-to-none, hosts Game 3 tomorrow night.

Tonight, Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals between the Heat the Celtics.  Miami leads the series 1-0. 

Also tonight, the Devils and Kings will skate in the opener of the Stanley Cup final. 

To baseball, in the American league, Albert Pujols and Mark Trumbo both homered, as the Angels picked up their eighth straight win, beating the Yankees 5-1, the Red Sox tagged Justin Verlander for ten hits in their 6-3 win over Detroit, the White Sox dropped Tampa Bay 7-2, Seattle slammed Texas 10-3, Minnesota got by Oakland 3-2, Kansas City cruised past Cleveland 8-2, and Toronto bounced Baltimore 8-6.    

Over to the NL, Jeremy Hefner earned his first career win in the majors, highlighting the occasion by homering for his first big league hit, as the Mets doubled up Philadelphia 6-3.  Atlanta held off St. Louis 5-4, Milwaukee got by the Dodgers 2-1, San Francisco nipped Arizona 3-1, Miami dumped Washington 3-1, Cincinnati routed Pittsburgh 8-1, and the Cubs clipped San Diego 5-3.    

In other baseball news, Phillies ace Roy Halladay and Angels ace Jered Weaver are both headed to the DL.  Halladay has a shoulder injury; Weaver a lower-back injury.

At the French Open, fifth-seed Serena Williams was stunned in first round play by Virginie Razzano (vur-ZHEE'-nee rad-ZAH'-noh) 4-6, 7-6, 6-3, ending her hopes of a 14th Grand Slam title for the time being.    

On the men’s side, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, and David Ferrer headlined Tuesday’s winners advancing to the second round.

And in NFL news, the Miami Dolphins will appear on HBO’s "Hard Knocks" this summer. The popular series starts August 7th
