Well a dramatic comeback win lifts the Rangers over the Capitals…

Game 5 on the ice last night in New York, Marc Staal's goal at 1:35 of overtime capped the Rangers’ rally as they skated past the Capitals 3-2.  Sound courtesy of the NHL.  Staal’s overtime winner came after Brad Richards tied the game with just seven seconds remaining.  The Rangers, who now lead the series 3-2, can finish off the Capitals tomorrow night in Washington D.C. 

Game 5 on the ice in Phoenix, Mike Smith turned aside 32 shots, to lead the Coyotes to a series-clinching 2-1 win over the Predators.  Phoenix advances to the Western conference finals for the first time in franchise history, setting up a showdown with the Los Angeles Kings.      

In other NHL news, Philadelphia forward Claude Giroux has been suspended for tonight’s Game 5 contest between the Flyers and Devils following his hit in Game 4 on Dainius Zubrus. 

To the NBA postseason, last night in Utah, Manu Ginobili netted 17 points, as the Spurs completed a series sweep of the Jazz 87-81.  San Antonio awaits the winner of Grizzlies-Clippers series.

Speaking of that series, last night in Los Angeles, Chris Paul dropped in 27, pulled down nine boards, and dished out seven assists, as the Clippers got by the Grizzlies 101-97.  L-A now leads the series three-games-to-one.

In other NBA news, an MRI has revealed that Knicks guard Baron Davis tore both the ACL and MCL in his right knee, while also suffering a partial tear of his patella tendon.  Davis is expected to miss an entire year. 

To baseball, in the American League, Will Middlebrooks’ three-run blast powered the Red Sox over Kansas City 11-5, the Angels whipped Minnesota 8-3, Texas trounced Baltimore 14-3, Cleveland swept a doubleheader from the White Sox 8-6 and 3-2, and Seattle rallied to beat Detroit 3-2.

Over to the NL, Jordanny Valdespin’s ninth-inning three-run blast lifted the Mets over Philadelphia 5-2, Florida blanked Houston 4-0, St. Louis outlasted Arizona 9-6, the Dodgers routed San Francisco 9-1, the Cubs beat Atlanta 5-1, San Diego held off Colorado 3-2, and Cincinnati dropped Milwaukee 6-1.         

And in other baseball news, Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels has received a five game suspension after drilling Nationals rookie Bryce Harper in the back, admitting after the game it was a "welcome to the big leagues" gesture.
