Williams College has canceled June’s commencement and reunion events due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
The Williamstown, Massachusetts private liberal arts college has an undergraduate student population of around 2,000. But those undergrads and the school’s alumni will not celebrate usual end of year festivities because of the coronavirus pandemic.
“In light of the pandemic’s progress and impact, Williams has decided that the college can’t safely hold a traditional in-person commencement or reunion in June,” said Director of Media Relations Gregory Shook.
The commencement and reunion were scheduled for June 7th and 11th, respectively. President Maud Mandel made the announcement via an email to the college community Friday. The college closed its campus and moved to a remote learning format on March 11th.
