Rep. Maloney Reintroduces Legislation To Honor Former Congressmen

WAMC, Allison Dunne

New York Representative Sean Patrick Maloney has reintroduced legislation to honor two former congressmen by adding their names to local landmarks.

The 18th District Democrat says his package of bills is to honor late Hudson Valley Congressmen Maurice Hinchey and Ben Gilman.  The first bill would honor Hinchey by adding his name to the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area, which the Democrat worked to establish. The second bill would honor former Republican Congressman Ben Gilman, who served on the House Post Office and Civil Service Committee, by adding his name to the post office at 40 Fulton Street in Middletown, in Orange County. Republican Long Island Congressman Pete King is co-leading the effort, as he did last year. And Maloney says every member of the New York delegation has signed on to each bill as co-sponsor.
