Three New York congressmen have introduced bipartisan legislation to direct a study on how to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
Congressmen Antonio Delgado and Max Rose, both Democrats, and Republican Congressman John Katko say their bill would require the Departments of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Health and Human Services (HHS) and Agriculture (USDA) to examine housing features, such as updated HVAC systems, motion sensor sinks and expanded outdoor spaces, to help stop the spread of COVID-19 in adult living facilities. The study would also include information on how these changes could be covered under federal housing assistance and mortgage insurance programs. Democratic New Hampshire Congresswoman Ann Kuster also introduced the Keeping Seniors Safe from COVID-19 Through Home Design Act.
