New York Congressman Antonio Delgado honored a fallen Marine during his first speech on the House floor.

The 19th District Democrat honored Major James Brophy from Staatsburg.

“Major Brophy was a decorated combat veteran who served in Afghanistan, as well as Japan. He dedicated his life to our nation and he was a devoted father, husband, and son,” Delgado said. “This is a tremendous loss to not only his family but to the entire Dutchess County community, and he serves as an example to all of us.”

The 36-year-old Brophy was among five Marines who died in a military plane crash off Japan’s coast in December. There was a remembrance ceremony for him in Poughkeepsie January 11.
