The Massachusetts Commission on LGBT Aging is holding a listening session in Pittsfield Tuesday afternoon.

Pittsfield Democratic State Representative Tricia Farley-Bouvier, Vice-Chair of the Legislature’s Joint Committee on Elder Affairs, says it’s an opportunity for the commission to hear the needs of LGBTQ seniors.

“I anticipate hearing issues that are facing all seniors, I anticipate hearing things that are particular to LGBTQ seniors, and I anticipate hearing some issues that are particular to LGBTQ seniors here in the Berkshires,” the state senator told WAMC.

Farley-Bouvier says the information gathered will be used to improve services and make them more accessible to state residents.

The session is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Berkshire Athenaeum.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018, following stints at WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Western Massachusetts, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. His free time is spent with his cat Harry, experimental electronic music, and exploring the woods.
