A longtime public radio official will be Bennington College’s 11th president.
Nick Stephens is the chairman of the college’s board and an alumnus of the private liberal arts school. He says the board voted last week to make Laura Walker Bennington’s next leader, citing her experience as the former President and CEO of New York Public Radio and WNYC.
“In her 23 years there, building it from a very small station to a media giant – even by New York City standards," said Stephens. "She also has great contacts, we believe, to bring in resources for the college which as with many small liberal arts college is an important thing for us.”
Walker will replace interim president Dr. Isabel Roche on August 1st. The Southern Vermont campus said it will open for in-person instruction this fall.
