Final Plattsburgh Air Force Base Property Transferred to Local Community

The final parcels of U.S. Air Force property at the former air force base in Plattsburgh was formally transferred to the county Wednesday.

The Plattsburgh Air Force Base began operations in 1954, and closed in September 1995 following the third round of base Realignment and Closures. Since then the Plattsburgh Airbase Redevelopment Corporation - known as PARC - has worked with the Air Force Real Property Agency to redevelop the property. On Wednesday afternoon, the Air Force transferred ownership of the final parcels to the local community.

Air Force Real Property Agency, BRAC Program management Division, Programs Branch Chief Gregory Gangnuss calls the redevelopment phenomenal.

Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Installations, Environment and Logistics Kathleen Ferguson served at the Plattsburgh Air Force Base.

PARC Board Chair Gil Duken says there are 16 parcels within this final acreage that have yet to be redeveloped.

To symbolize the formal transfer, Gregory Gangnuss presented the Chair of the Clinton County Legislature with a panel of pictures depicting the past, present and future of the property.

Since the closure of the Air Force Base 3,463 acres of land have been transferred to the county.
