Fenway Park already has its Green Monster — and now environmental activists want the whole ballpark to "go green."
They're asking the Red Sox to commit to relying exclusively on energy from renewable sources.
The activists from Environment Massachusetts and MASSPIRG Students announced the launch of the "Sox Go Green" campaign this week.
They're asking the franchise to obtain 100 percent of the energy used for Fenway Park, team operations, and the team's spring training facility in Florida from renewable resources like solar and wind power within five years.
Advocates say at least seven cities and towns in Massachusetts and schools like Harvard and Boston University have already committed to achieve 100 percent renewable energy.
More than 120 major companies have also adopted 100 percent renewable energy targets.
