New York Officials Warn Against Vaping

After the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention linked at least 5 deaths and 450 illnesses to vaping products, New York officials are urging state residents to stop using them.

Governor Andrew Cuomo commented on the reported health issues Saturday.

“There have been a number of deaths. There’s an investigation ongoing. Nobody knows exactly what it is. There’s some suggestion that it’s linked to vitamin E, etc. But our health guidance is no one should use vaping products, period, until we know what it is,” said Cuomo.

New York State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker said the state “is diligently testing both cannabis and nicotine-containing vape products received from people experiencing serious lung-related illnesses.”

Zucker said there have been no adverse effects among patients in New York’s medical marijuana program, though the Department of Health is asking patients to consult with their healthcare providers about alternatives to vaping products.
