New York state is funding the creation of six new recovery centers to help people trying to overcome heroin and opioid addiction.

The new facilities will be located in Saratoga Springs, Newburgh, Staten Island, Long Island, Buffalo and Watertown - funded by $10.5 million in state money announced Wednesday by Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

They will offer services to recovering users including workforce training, and assistance with insurance and health care.

It's one piece of a broader state effort to address the rise in heroin and opioid use and abuse.
