Michael Hickey On Hoosick Falls Water Contamination

PFOA formula

The Environmental Protection Agency has warned residents of Hoosick Falls not to drink the water. The village is home to decades-old manufacturing facilities now owned by Saint-Gobain.

On her recent visit to the Rensselaer County community, EPA Regional Administrator Judith Enck thanked local resident Michael Hickey for his work in bringing the contamination of the village water system into the limelight.

Hickey, whose father died from cancer three years ago, began investigating chemical PFOA in the public water supply in 2014 after purchasing his own water testing kit.

Hickey  spoke with WAMC's Lucas Willard.

Lucas Willard is a news reporter and host at WAMC Northeast Public Radio, which he joined in 2011. He produces and hosts The Best of Our Knowledge and WAMC Listening Party.
