Former Halfmoon supervisor Melinda "Mindy" Wormuth will be sentenced after pleading guilty to felony counts of extortion and making a false statement in August.
Wormuth admitted to accepting $7,500 in exchange for using her position as town supervisor and a member of the Saratoga County Board of supervisors to lobby for the legalization of professional Mixed Martial Arts in New York.
She also pleaded guilty to lying to FBI agents during an interview, where she stated that she had consulted with a former town justice for his approval before accepting the payments.
Wormuth faces up to a year and one day in prison under the federal charges.
Wormuth also pleaded guilty to state charges of grand larceny for misusing campaign funds in August. She faces up to 10 months in prison for the state charges.
