New York City officials say they have successfully repaired leaks near a dam at one of their upstate reservoirs.
Workers drilling holes for a hydroelectric plant in an embankment downstream from the Cannonsville Reservoir in Delaware County accidentally created the leak in early July. That prompted the city's Department of Environmental Protection to draw down the reservoir as a precautionary measure.
Crews also created relief wells to reduce pressure in the underground aquifer.
Workers late last month sealed the three holes that had discharged cloudy water into the West Branch of the Delaware River. They have spent the past several weeks testing the repairs as they slowly shut down the relief wells.
City officials declared the tests a success Thursday.
