In the final push before the end of New York's legislative session, the state Assembly has passed a piece of gun control legislation named after a boy killed in Saratoga County.
"Nicholas's Law" is named after Nicholas Naumkin - a 12-year-old who died in 2010 after being accidentally shot by a friend. The two boys were handling the friend's father's handgun.
The bill passed by the Assembly Tuesday night would require gun owners to store firearms in a locking container.
Oksana Naumkin, Nicholas' mother, said in a statement she "will continue to fight for Nicholas’s Law until it is the law of the State of New York.”
A Senate version of the bill was introduced last week.
