ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York's Joint Commission on Public Ethics blames the recent embarrassing transmission of a closed session on a technical glitch.
Critics say they want an investigation based on the powerful board's own rules to determine if the leak, which could carry a misdemeanor charge, was an intentional political hit on the Assembly.
JCOPE spokesman John Milgrim says the five-minute transmission on Jan. 29th was from a technical error that has been fixed. He refuses to say if an investigation was made or if there was any indication the transmission was intentional. The transmission revealed a probe into the Assembly and identified a top aide.
Former JCOPE board member Ravi Batra says there needs to be an investigation into whether it was a political smear job.
