The District Attorney of Berkshire County says she supports the police reform bill the Massachusetts legislature passed this month.

Andrea Harrington, a first-term Democrat, backed the bill – titled “An Act relative to Justice, Equity and Accountability in Law Enforcement in the Commonwealth” – in a statement Tuesday.

“I hope to really continue my work with our local police in building confidence in our system," she told WAMC. "Because right now, let’s face it, people don’t have a lot of confidence in law enforcement and in the justice system.”

She called on her fellow prosecutors to interrogate their own role in systemic bias, saying that “It is undeniable that Massachusetts perpetuates stark racial disparities in policing and prosecution.”

It’s not clear if Gov. Charlie Baker will sign the bill.
