Shakespeare & Co Announces Furloughs

Shakespeare & Company

Lenox, Massachusetts theater group Shakespeare & Company has announced furloughs for most of its staff.

Artistic Director Allyn Burrows says all of the company’s 26 full-time employees – save for a skeleton crew to maintain daily operations – will be furloughed from July 5th to October 5th.

“With no programming on the boards for us, it’s necessary and it also allows us to be fiscally smart about coming back strong in the fall," he told WAMC.

Ticket sales make up more than a quarter of the company’s $4.5 million yearly operating budget. Shakespeare & Co will be presenting drive-in movies on its campus in collaboration with the Berkshire International Film Festival starting later this month.
