The Boston Symphony Orchestra has canceled the summer season at its Lenox, Massachusetts concert venue Tanglewood.

Due to the public health concerns around coronavirus, the BSO is calling off in-person events and is moving some of its scheduled offerings online. It comes after the company announced sweeping furloughs in April.

“We generate $53 million in ticket sales and other earned income, and so that’s a huge number. It’s a half our budget," said President and CEO Mark Volpe. "Our budget is roughly $106, 107 million – or it was, before the pandemic.”

The BSO previously called off the Boston Pops coming season, as well as its traditional 4th of July celebration in Boston. Tanglewood’s now canceled pop and rock lineup included planned appearances by Ringo Starr and Phish’s Trey Anastasio.
