The Massachusetts Senate passed legislation on LGBTQ inclusion drafted by Berkshire County Senator Adam Hinds Thursday.
The Democrat’s bill adds representatives of the LGBTQ community to the Advisory Board of the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, the state agency that investigates discrimination.
“This commission makes a whole range of important decisions and actions in relation to investigations," Hinds told WAMC. "It makes sure that this community is represented in pursuing those.”
Out & Equal Workplace Advocates says one in four members of the LGBTQ community experiences workplace discrimination. The bill will require that a representative of both the LGBTQ community and a member of the trans community have a seat on the board. It heads next to the House.
