Voters in Clarksburg, Massachusetts have once again shot down renovations at the town’s elementary school.

A proposal to expand the Clarksburg Elementary School fell short of the required two-thirds approval by just one vote in September.

At Saturday’s special town meeting, there were 292 “no” votes to 263 in support of the renovation project.

The renovation would cost $19 million, with $11.3 million reimbursed by the state.

Opponents cite the proposed tax rate increase of $3.25 per $1,000 of assessed value, and say they’re dubious about the town’s ability to get out of debt.
