Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders held a student town meeting at the Burlington High School Friday afternoon to discuss the opioid crisis.
Senator Sanders told the 1100 high school students gathered in the auditorium that he and others are worried about the epidemic of opioid addiction and overdose deaths sweeping the nation. He asked for their help.  “The issue of why so many young people are turning to drugs and how we can prevent that,  you probably know a lot more than the experts.”

According to Senator Sanders’ office more than 60,000 people died from opioid overdoses in the United States last year.
