After a rash of mills closed in North Adams, a group of Williams College students started the Berkshire Food Project in 1986 to connect the unemployed with meals. In September, its leader of 25 years, Valerie Schwarz, retired. WAMC’s Berkshire Bureau Chief JD Allen spoke with food security activist Kim McMann – the nonprofit’s new executive director.

A farewell event for Valarie Schwarz is set for November 4th. Thanksgiving dinner will be served November 20th
