The Adams-Cheshire Regional School Committee will resubmit the same $19.2 million budget that was rejected by voters in Cheshire, Massachusetts last week.

At the annual town meeting Monday, Adams approved a $15.5 million budget, including its share of the regional school budget – which residents of Cheshire rejected last week.

Superintendent Rob Putnam says it was shot down because it finalizes the closing of the Cheshire Elementary School, over C.T. Plunkett in Adams.

“The school committee considered the FY 18 budget as originally proposed to be the budget that achieves the best educational ends to the entire district,” Putnam says.

After July 1st, the towns will have to pay into a monthly, level funded school budget until a permanent one is passed. Cheshire plans to reconsider the budget at a special town meeting July 17th.

If it’s rejected again, the entire district will vote together as a whole, and majority rules. If a budget is still not in place by December 1st, the state will take over the district.
