The Connecticut Bar Association hosted a panel discussion Monday about the opioid addiction crisis.
The panel – titled “The Opioid Crisis in Connecticut: Medical and Legal Perspectives” – brought together health care professionals, legal experts and lawmakers.
State law enforcement officials say the first death from carfentanil — an opiate 10,000 times stronger than morphine — was reported last week.
Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty, a Democrat from the state’s 5th House District, says opioid addiction is difficult for all levels of the community.
Esty served on the conference committee that created the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act, which was signed into law last July. Esty is now a member of the Bipartisan Task Force to Combat the Heroin Epidemic.
