Dr. Bill Thomas: Rethinking How We Age

In 2010, the number of people aged 65 and over surpassed the amount of school age children in Berkshire County. Currently 20 percent of the county’s 131,000 residents are 65 or older and it’s projected that will rise to roughly 29 percent by 2020. Right now, the average in Massachusetts is about 14 percent. With those significant figures, a recently launched effort called Age Friendly Berkshires is looking at ways to better the lives of senior citizens. The nonprofit is hosting author and performer Dr. Bill Thomas for a stop on his latest 30-city national tour at Pittsfield’s Colonial Theatre Tuesday. WAMC spoke with Thomas about his Age of Disruption tour.

Thomas is also visiting Hartford, Connecticut, on Wednesday. Click here for more information about Thomas.

Jim was WAMC’s Assistant News Director and hosted WAMC's flagship news programs: Midday Magazine, Northeast Report and Northeast Report Late Edition.
