A Connecticut veterans park will be receiving some of the last remaining artifacts from the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center. The Middletown Press reports that the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey has granted the Connecticut Trees of Honor Memorial at Veterans Park in Middletown two sections of subway rails that ran under the World Trade Center buildings.

The 13-foot-long, 1,500-pound rails will be placed on permanent display at the park to honor the 2,977 people who died on Sept. 11 and the 65 military members from Connecticut killed in Afghanistan and Iraq. A private contractor has volunteered to transport the rails from New York to Middletown.

Sixty-five trees planted at the park honor the state's fallen heroes.
