In the wake of several campus suicides, students at MIT are looking for their own solutions to prevent more deaths.A wave of new student projects aim to defuse the stress of campus life before it leads to a crisis. One group created a texting hotline that lets students anonymously discuss problems with trained student volunteers. Other students are bringing therapy dogs to campus, along with artificial light boxes to treat seasonal depression.

Students say they're meeting demands that were previously missing on campus.

Experts say that college students across the country are playing a bigger role in suicide prevention, and that it's often effective.

MIT officials say they support the student projects, and recently awarded thousands in grants to cover projects dealing with mental health.
