A Vermont group critical of the state's recent health care initiatives is joining a national doctors' group and an insurance company to oppose the state's health data collection efforts before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Vermonters for Health Care Freedom joined the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons in telling the court the state data collection efforts likely would violate patient privacy.
The state's main opponent, the Liberty Mutual insurance company, says the state is looking to collect massive amounts of data — creating privacy risks and financial burdens.
A top state health regulator, Chairman Al Gobeille of the Green Mountain Care Board, has said the state needs the data to determine if its reform efforts are working.
The Supreme Court is expected to hear arguments in the case this fall.
