Egremont To Transport Back To 1865

Facebook: Friends of Egremont History

The town of Egremont, Massachusetts is recalling how the Civil War impacted the small Berkshire County town 150 years after it ended.Performers along with reenactors from the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry will recreate what life was like in Egremont during the Civil War. Lynn Wood of the Friends of Egremont History says the idea came from letters, including ones exchanged by two sisters.

“They were trying to figure out how to tell their mother that their youngest brother had been killed,” Wood said. “Really it just hit that ‘OK, this war happened here as well as on the field.’”

The event starts at noon Sunday at the South Egremont Village Green Triangle.
