About 200,000 households in western Massachusetts will see lower electricity rates for the summer.Eversource, formerly known as Northeast Utilities and including subsidiaries like Western Massachusetts Electric Co., is dropping residential electric rates in western Massachusetts by 31 percent until the end of the year. Spokesperson Priscilla Ress says natural gas is more abundant during the warmer months because it’s not being used to heat buildings.
“This means that your average customer, they’re going to see their electric bill go down to under $100 a month,” Ress said. “The spike in the cost of electricity really impacted a lot of folks all across the region so this is good news right across the board.”
Ress says the rate is about the same as the rate this time last year.
