Update:  Verizon Wireless' cutover from the temporary tower to the new permanent tower was complete as of 7 o'clock Saturday morning, according to the company.

“The process went according to plan and the Verizon Network Team will closely monitor it to ensure everything continues to work properly,” said executive director for Network for Verizon Wireless, Rich Enright in an emailed statement from the company.

Verizon cell phone customers in the Northern Berkshire region may experience some outages Saturday morning as the company switches its signal from a temporary tower raised after a tower collapse in 2014 to a permanent structure. Two towers in North Adams were completely destroyed in March 2014 when wind gusts of more than 50 mph were reported in the area. A temporary tower was brought to fill the gap for the cell phone providers. Starting at 6 a.m. Saturday, Verizon Wireless is switching to a permanent fixture, according to Mayor Richard Alcombright’s office which sent out an automated message.

“Due to the cutover service disruptions to Verizon customers may last between two and four hours,” said the recording.

The mayor’s office plans to send out notifications if work is delayed.
