MCLA Taps Potsdam, Cortland Grad As Athletic Director

Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts has selected its next athletic director.Laura Mooney takes over for Scott Nichols who retired this winter after nearly two decades with MCLA.  Mooney played soccer and lacrosse at SUNY Potsdam. Mooney went on to earn a master’s degree in sports administration and management from SUNY Cortland.

She’s been at SUNY Maritime College for the past nine years coaching and with the school’s administration, most recently as associate athletic director.

“I’m very centered around the Division III philosophy,” Mooney said. “Really enhancing the student-athlete experience. So it was a perfect fit for me with MCLA.”

MCLA has six men’s and seven women’s varsity teams that compete at the NCAA DIII level.
