Former Massachusetts treasurer Steve Grossman has landed a new job as CEO of a Boston-based nonprofit. Grossman served one term as state treasurer before running for governor last year besting then frontrunner and Attorney General Martha Coakley at the Massachusetts Democratic Convention.
“I’ve got to play catch up ball with her [Coakley],” Grossman said after receiving the party’s endorsement. “But I know how to do it. And the way to do it is to stress over and over and over again, jobs and economic opportunity. That’s what I’ve done all my life.”
Coakley beat Grossman in September’s primary.
The Initiative for a Competitive Inner City describes itself as a pioneer in developing market-based solutions to help revitalize economically underperforming urban economies through business and job development.
The group's founder, Michael Porter, pointed to Grossman's background in business and what he called Grossman's dedication to public service as key factors in the decision.
Grossman said he was excited by the opportunity to help rebuild inner cities by spurring small business growth, streamlining access to capital, and creating jobs.
