Advocates Rally For Minimum Wage, Sick Time

Backers of ballot questions that would raise the minimum wage and create a statewide earned sick time policy are pushing ahead to collect enough signatures to put the measures before Massachusetts voters next year.

The minimum wage question would increase the state wage from $8 to $10.50 per hour over two years. The sick time question would guarantee all Massachusetts workers can earn sick time to use if they or their family members become ill.

Two Democratic candidates for governor, state treasurer Steve Grossman and fellow candidate state attorney general Martha Coakley, are supporting the measures.

Grossman attended earned sick time rallies in New Bedford and Fall River on Saturday.
