A judge has rejected a motion to dismiss former Connecticut Governor John Rowland's convictions for election fraud, conspiracy and obstruction of justice.U.S. District Judge Janet Bond Arterton dismissed Rowland's motion for acquittal Tuesday, saying his lawyers haven't presented enough proof that there wasn't enough evidence for the convictions.
Rowland is set to be sentenced Jan. 7. He was convicted in September of seven counts related to his attempts to hide work on two Republican congressional campaigns through phony business deals.
Prosecutors want Rowland to serve more than three years in prison. Rowland's lawyers say he should spend no more than 18 months behind bars.
Rowland resigned as governor in 2004 amid a corruption scandal and later served 10 months in prison for taking illegal gifts while in office.
