Mass. Medical Society Publishes Guidebook On Human Trafficking

wikipedia.org

The Massachusetts Medical Society has published a guidebook for healthcare providers on how to identify, assess and respond to victims of human trafficking. The 44-page guidebook is the result of a three year research collaboration between Massachusetts General Hospital and the state’s medical society. Dr. Elaine Alpert is the founding chair of the society’s Committee on Violence Intervention and Prevention and is the book’s first author.

“There are three main types of human trafficking that this guidebook addresses,” Alpert said. “One is labor trafficking, one is sex trafficking and one is organ trafficking. As you can imagine people who are victimized by these three different types of trafficking may come in with very, very different presentations to the healthcare setting.”
