The city of Pittsfield is asking residents to curb water use while its Department of Public Utilities works to fix a water main break. The break occurred Monday in the main transmission line on Housatonic Street in Dalton which leads to the Cleveland Water Treatment Plant. It provides about two-thirds of Pittsfield’s water, according to a press release from Mayor Dan Bianchi’s office.
The Berkshire Eagle reports Dalton has declared a state of emergency since the line supplies all of the town’s water. A temporary repair returned the plant to service by midnight Monday. A permanent fix is scheduled for Wednesday evening which will require the main to be shut down for about six hours. Pittsfield’s other treatment plant will continue to supply water. Residents may experience low-pressure or dirty water.
